This Privacy Policy explains what information the Cultivate Study app ("Cultivate Study," "we," "us") collects, how we use it, when it may be shared, and the choices available to you. If you have questions, contact us at cultivatestudy@gmail.com.
Cultivate Study is built around private scripture study. Some reading features may be available locally without signing in, but an account is required for cloud synchronization, Study Spaces, and other account-backed services. Your notes and other private study content are not made visible to other users unless you deliberately share a specific Shared Thought to a Study Space. We do not sell your personal information, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not show third-party ads.
Account and authentication information. When you create or sign in to a Cultivate Study account using an email address, Sign in with Apple, or Sign in with Google, we receive the information needed to authenticate you, such as your email address and, when provided, your name. Sign in with Apple may provide us with an Apple private relay address instead of your personal email address.
Study content you create. This may include notes, highlights, favorites or saved items, scripture links, study collections, reading plans, and similar content you create or organize in the app.
Reading activity. We store information used for features such as reading history, streaks, progress, achievements, chapter and verse coverage, and reading-time or dwell-time statistics.
Study Space information. If you use Study Spaces, we store information needed to operate them, including memberships, roles, Study Space settings, shared-reading progress, notification preferences, invitations, and a display name. You may also choose to add a profile photo for use in Study Spaces. Your Study Space display name and profile photo are intended to be visible to people who share a Study Space with you.
Shared Thoughts. Notes are private by default. When you explicitly share a particular note entry as a Shared Thought to a Study Space, we store a member-facing copy of that specific entry for that Study Space. We do not expose other private entries from the same note merely because one entry was shared. We may also store reports and moderation records when shared content is reported or removed.
Profile photos and device permissions. If you choose to use a Study Space profile photo, the app may ask for access to your camera or photo library at that time. We process the image you select or take and upload the prepared profile image to our backend. We do not collect your photo library generally.
Notifications. If you allow Study Space or other remote notifications, we may store a device push token together with your account identifier, device platform, update timestamp, and notification preferences so notifications can be delivered. Local reading reminders may also be scheduled on your device.
Referral information. If the referral program is available and you use it, we may store your referral code, referral relationships and status, confirmed referral count, and any referral-based reward or entitlement status. A limited reading milestone, such as reaching the qualifying streak, may be used to determine whether a referral has been earned.
Analytics and diagnostics. We collect limited product-use metadata and technical diagnostic information as described under "Analytics and crash reporting" below.
Optional research contribution. Cultivate Study may offer a separate, optional setting that lets you contribute interaction data to help us evaluate and improve scripture-connection features. This setting is off by default. When enabled, the data may include which source and candidate passages were shown or selected, the type of connection, interaction type, position or response timing, curriculum or release context, app/runtime version, and timestamp. It does not include the text of your private notes or Shared Thoughts.
We do not collect precise location, your contacts, or advertising identifiers for advertising purposes.
Current Cultivate Study features do not send the text of your private notes, highlights, or Study Space Shared Thoughts to a third-party generative AI service for generation. Some app content or datasets may be prepared or reviewed before publication using development tools, but that is separate from processing your private study content. If a future user-facing feature changes what personal or private study data is sent to an AI provider, we will update this policy to explain that data flow.
We use PostHog for product analytics and technical error reporting.
When you are signed in, PostHog may be associated with the same Cultivate Study account identifier so we can understand how many distinct accounts are affected by a problem. We do not use PostHog for advertising and we do not sell this data.
The research-contribution setting is separate from ordinary product analytics and is off by default. If you turn it on, Cultivate Study may send the scripture-connection interaction metadata described above to our Supabase backend. You can turn this contribution off again at any time; future qualifying interactions will no longer be submitted.
Study Spaces are shared environments for families, friends, classes, and other study groups. Members may see information needed for the shared experience, such as member display names and profile photos, membership, shared-reading progress, and content that has deliberately been shared to that Study Space.
Your personal note record is not opened to an entire Study Space when you share a thought. Cultivate Study uses an entry-level sharing boundary: only the specific entry you explicitly share to that Study Space is made available to its members. Older or ambiguous note data that does not contain an explicit Study Space audience is not automatically exposed to other members.
Shared Thoughts can be reported, and Study Space owners or administrators may have tools to remove shared content from that Study Space. Removing a share removes it from the member-facing Study Space view; your underlying private note remains yours unless you delete it.
We use Supabase for backend services including authentication, database storage, server functions, synchronization, and storage of optional Study Space profile photos. Access controls are designed so account-owned data is scoped to the appropriate user and shared Study Space data is limited to authorized members or roles.
Other service providers that may process limited information on our behalf include PostHog for analytics and error reporting, Expo and platform push-notification services for notification delivery, Apple for Sign in with Apple and Apple platform services, and Google for Google Sign-In and Google/Android platform services when you use them.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not use your study data to show ads. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to operate the service, protect users or the service, comply with law, or respond to valid legal process.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights concerning access, correction, deletion, or restriction of personal information. Contact us at cultivatestudy@gmail.com to make a request.
We retain account and synced content while your account exists and for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the features you use. When you delete your account, Cultivate Study removes the account and associated data from its active application systems, including the optional profile image. Deletion may take a limited amount of time to propagate through caches, backups, or systems used for reliability and security. We may retain limited information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents.
Cultivate Study is rated for ages 12 and up. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
We use technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information, including encrypted network connections, account-scoped database access controls, server-side membership checks for Study Spaces, and temporary signed access links for private profile images. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect the information entrusted to us.
We may update this policy as Cultivate Study changes. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and may provide additional notice in the app when appropriate.
